We all understand there are some tensions going on in between India-China. Chinese army has entered the Indian territory beyond LAC. And multiple talks within the country and with China is going on by respective authorities. Then what happened that we lost our 20 soldiers. After Kargil war, this is the first time that we lost these many soldiers and that is too in that place which seems to be silent. Let throw some light.

What happened on 15^th June 2020?

Economic Times report says that on 15^th June there were talks between Indian and Chinese army at Commander level in patrolling point 14. The outcomes of the meeting were both the army would go step back from LAC. And Chinese army stepped back. On the same date at night, 16 Bihar Regiment commanding officer Colonel Santosh Babu with 50 other soldiers went to see whether Chinese came back again. And subsequently the Indian soldiers started collapsing the tents of Chinese army. While doing so, 250 Chinese soldiers stepped in with iron nail sticks, stones, and other weapons to beat the Indian soldiers. And this is where 20 Indian soldiers were martyred. Many Indian soldiers even fell down in Galwan river.

Why Indian soldiers went without weapons?

On 7^th Sept 1993 , there was an agreement between India and China. PV Narsimha Rao with minister R L Bhatia and Chinese sub External Affairs Minister Tang Jiashuan. Both the countries agreed upon that if at all any dispute arises, then both the countries will resolve the issue in talks and no war like situation will be spawned. Both the countries will respect the LAC. It at all any army crosses the LAC, then with a warning from the other side, the army should go back. Both the countries will even deploy less army personals near LAC. And that is the main reason why Colonel Santosh Babu did not carry any weapons with him because that would be a violation of international agreement.

My View - India should treat China the same way which it understands. When Chinese army is violating the agreement, then in order to retain the national integrity and pride, India should also step ahead.
